Senator Lincoln Introduces Geriatric Care Act of 2001
Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, introduced S. 775, the Geriatric Care Act of 2001. The NCCC worked with the American Geriatric Society in crafting a key component of this legislation, which would expand Medicare coverage to include reimbursement for care coordination and assessment services. These services would include health screening and assessment, management of and referral for medical and health services, medication management, patient and family caregiver education and counseling, self-management services, telephone consultations, and other activities to facilitate continuity of care.
